Why Winter Worsens Dry Feet and Cracked Heels
As the temperature drops and the air becomes drier, many people experience an uncomfortable and often painful issue: cracked heels and dry feet. Winter weather can wreak havoc on your skin, and your feet—often neglected—are especially vulnerable. But with the right care, you can keep your feet soft, smooth, and healthy all season long.
Several factors contribute to this seasonal skin issue:
- Low humidity: Cold air holds less moisture, and indoor heating further dries out feet.
- Hot showers: They strip your skin of natural oils.
- Improper footwear: Open-backed shoes or poorly insulated boots.
- Neglect: Feet are often overlooked in skincare routines, especially in winter.
Common Causes Beyond Weather
- Walking barefoot on hard surfaces
- Skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis
- Medical conditions such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, or obesity
